Getting Outdoors

The presence of East Fork Lake is a major attraction for outdoor enthusiasts, in addition to its varied landscape and diverse vegetation. Hikers are spoilt for choice with the range of hiking options. There is a 32-mile Steven Newman Worldwalker Perimeter Trail that circles the entire park, offering a strenuous hike. Easier hiking trails include Cedar Pond Loop, the Prairie Trail, the Whipporwill Trail, and the Fern Hill Trail, ranging from easy to moderate hikes, and between half a mile to two miles. There are a few bridle trails that can be hiked, such as the Pin Oak Trail, the Red Fox Bluff Trail, and the Cascades Trail, among others. Mountain bikers get to enjoy a mountain-bike trail that covers a little over nine miles of terrain that’s a mix of flat, smooth stretches and twisting, winding turns. If you’re an advanced cyclist, the second loop goes through steep hills and switchbacks.

If you plan on camping in a rental motorhome in East Fork State Park, you’ll have access to one of the largest campsites in the area, and an ideal location for RV camping. With over 400 sites, the campgrounds offer amenities like full hookups, electric (both 30 and 50 AMP), big rig access, sewers, water, restrooms and showers, cell phone connectivity and a camper’s beach. There is lots of space to run around for the kids. Pets are permitted but in designated areas. Another interesting feature of the park is the Equestrian Camp with around 15 spots. Make reservations ahead of time to guarantee yourself a spot at this campsite.

It’s a good idea to continue your Ohio road trip once you’ve explored East Fork State Park, and make your way to the city of Cincinnati that has much to offer everyone. About a half-hour’s drive from the state park will bring you to Cincinnati, located in Hamilton County, along the Ohio and Licking Rivers. Across the rivers lies the neighboring state of Kentucky.
