Galesburg is a city in and the county seat of Knox County, Illinois, and has a number of claims to fame. It was founded in 1836 by George Washington Gale who wanted to create a manual labor college (the present-day Knox College). It became an Underground Railroad stop and hosted a presidential debate between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas. One of the city's numerous historical sites is the boyhood home of poet, author, and historian Carl Sandburg; the city was also the birthplace of George Washington Gale Ferris Jr., inventor of the Ferris wheel.

Search for an RV in Knox County, and you can choose from a wide variety of RV rentals to find the unit that suits your vacation needs. Some other nearby cities may be worth visiting. Davenport, across the Mississippi River in Iowa, is the site of several annual blues concerts, such as the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival, the Mississippi Valley Fair, and the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival. Peoria is home to one of the oldest symphony orchestras in the nation, an annual arts fair, and an annual running race that draws international participants. Havana is named after the city of Havana, Cuba, and was once renowned for gambling, nightlife, cigar-manufacturing, and visits by Al Capone; today, it is a quaint, small town. Carthage is the site of the only hanging in Hancock County history; the accused, Efram Fraim, was defended by future U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln spoke in Carthage in 1858 on his U.S. Senate campaign trail (a large stone commemorates the spot). Your Galesburg travel trailer rental is how you will experience these destinations in comfort.

The Great Outdoors

Emiquon National Wildlife Refuge is an internationally important wetland habitat that provides sanctuary for migrating bird species such as waterfowl, songbirds, and shorebirds. Part of the refuge's landscape also consists of bottomland forest and tallgrass prairie. The refuge has a nature trail where you can observe the vegetation and wildlife while hiking, and practice photography if you have a camera with you. It's also a good spot for fishing if you're in the mood to catch rather than buy your dinner. Bring your Galesburg motorhome rental with you, and you can end your day in luxury while preparing your meal in your kitchen-on-wheels.

Sand Ridge State Forest is a combination forest preserve and public recreation area with stands of pine and oak-hickory trees, grasslands and open fields, and sand prairies. If you plan to visit here during the summer, there is an archery range and a separate shooting range you can make use of. You can also enjoy hiking and picnicking while taking in the scenery and spend some time camping. If you prefer challenging activities, you can also participate in the geocaching that is hosted. In the winter, you can come here to go cross-country skiing or snowmobiling on the marked trails. Hunting is permitted in season.

Jubilee College State Park is a semi-cultivated outdoor recreation area with well-marked trails and picnicking areas with tables and grills, playgrounds, and toilet facilities. The park has many miles of trails which are multi-use (open for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding); some of the trails have short wooden bridges to facilitate passing over creeks. You can camp here if you wish, from roughly mid-April until late October; the campgrounds have gravel pads and primitive toilet facilities. You can enjoy fishing and hunting with the appropriate licenses and winter activities too.

RV Parks

There are numerous RV parks and campgrounds near Galesburg, and some of them may be exclusively for mobile homes, seasonal guests, or members only. Your Galesburg camper rental is all you will need to have a relaxing and enjoyable vacation wherever you stay.

The park has a heated swimming pool, a playground, a stocked fishing pond, and level trails where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll. Pedal cars, bicycles, and propane are available, and the park is close to many outside amenities. Some of the sites are designated for tent camping, and there are cabins that can be rented.

Exploring The City

There are several museums to appreciate when you rent an RV in Galesburg, one of which is dedicated to the local history of railroads and another to children's interests (it has a science room, an art studio, an outdoor playground, and more). If you're an antique enthusiast, there are a few sites that will interest you; a glass art studio has displays you can look at, small unique souvenirs, and offers classes to the public.

By now, you've worked up an appetite, but you're still in luck; the city has a long list of eateries for you to choose from. There are bakeries and pizzerias, breweries and pub restaurants, and more. One local diner is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and has daily specials. The diner focuses on the comfort-style food you're used to eating at home.
