Breckenridge, Colorado

Breckenridge, with its charming Victorian town and vast ski area, is a haven for families. Its ski terrain caters to all skill levels, and the town’s welcoming atmosphere makes it an ideal destination for a family getaway.

Breckenridge Ski Resort is the place to go for winter sports of all kinds, including family ski trips. This enormous ski destination boasts 2,908 acres of terrain including two half-pipes, 187 trails, and five enormous peaks.

Kids aged 3 and older can learn to ski and snowboard by attending onsite classes, or you can choose to involve the whole family by taking a family private lesson. In addition to skiing, we also recommend sledding, snowshoeing, and taking a dog sled ride during your time in the resort.

Heading to town? Breckenridge hosts numerous events and activities throughout the year, including winter festivals, making it an engaging and lively destination for kids and adults alike. The Breckenridge Recreation Center boasts an indoor pool with a slide that kids adore, and the Mountain Top Children’s Museum provides another excellent indoor activity.

Where to Stay

Tiger Run RV Resort is our favorite lodging option in Breckenridge. This luxury resort offers full hookups, an indoor pool, hot tubs, a gym, and pretty much anything else you might need for a super comfy stay. Best of all, it’s close to all the fun the town has to offer!

Keystone Ski Resort, Colorado

Nestled in the Rockies, Keystone Ski Resort in Colorado is an ideal spot for family ski trips. It’s an isolated resort, meaning there isn’t much around it, but because there is so much to see and do in the resort itself, you’ll find that it really doesn’t matter.

The expansive terrain at Keystone Ski Resort features beginner-friendly slopes and dedicated family zones. The resort’s “Kid Ski Free” program makes vacation affordable for families, and the “Kidtopia” program ensures non-stop entertainment for children, complete with parades and fireworks. Parents can enjoy night skiing or unwinding at the spa while the kids revel in activities supervised by trained staff.

Other fun options include snow tubing, exploring the world’s largest snow fort at the top of the mountain, ice skating, and even sleigh rides. Honestly, we can’t imagine being bored in a place like this!

Where to Stay

Unfortunately, there are no RV parks located in Keystone RV Resort. Instead, we recommend staying at the aforementioned Tiger Run RV Resort. This park is located about five miles outside of the ski resort and offers all kinds of amenities as well as access to two different ski resorts.

Tips for a Successful Family Ski Trip

Obviously, we all want our family RV ski trips to go off without a hitch. Fortunately, there are a number of steps you can take to ensure everything goes smoothly and that you have a fun trip the whole family will look back on fondly:

  1. Plan Ahead: Book your campsite and ski lessons in advance, especially during peak seasons.
  2. Choose Family-Friendly Resorts: Look for resorts with dedicated children’s programs, beginner-friendly slopes, and off-slope activities. (Any of the options listed above will do.)
  3. Pack Essentials: Ensure everyone has appropriate clothing, including layers, waterproof gear, and sunscreen.
  4. Take Breaks: Skiing can be tiring, especially for kids. Schedule breaks for hot chocolate and rest.
  5. Safety First: Emphasize safety measures and proper skiing etiquette to ensure an enjoyable and accident-free experience.

When planning ski trips for families, it’s crucial to consider not only the skiing opportunities but also the off-slope activities and accommodations that cater to families. Each of the options listed above excels in providing both a family-friendly ski environment as well as plenty of fun outside of the ski resort. This means you’re sure to have an unforgettable winter experience that leaves you with memories that last a lifetime.

Ready to go? Grab your skis, book a campsite, snag a rental RV, and get ready for a winter adventure the whole family will love!
