  3. Washington

  5. Virginia

Let’s get into it!

One of the best places to experience the spring bloom is in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. And Deep Creek Loop Trail — or any hikes in the Deep Creek region for that matter — is a fan favorite to do just that.

Bluets and Blue-Eyed Grass decorate the deep creek area, making for a colorful hike wherever you go.

Known for its yellow balsamroot meadows that flower in the spring, the Dog Mountain area is a go-to spot in the springtime. White phantom orchids, Indian paintbrush, and purple lupine accompany the balsamroot to make for a rainbow of floral that make this difficult trek up Dog Mountain all the more worth it.

Note that each hiker on the Dog Mountain Trail System from April 23 – June 12 must carry a permit on Saturdays, Sundays, and Memorial Day.

Spring in Douthat State Park is when bellworts, creeping phloxes, and a violet variety make their yearly debut. The Blue Suck Falls Loop is one of the best trails in the park to experience the views of the Alleghany Highlands, multiple waterfalls, and, of course, the Virginian floral arrangements.

While you’re in the area, you can also make the drive to Shenandoah National Park which is also revered for its spring blooms!
