RVing Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park

One of the country’s most visited national parks, and for good reason.

Glacial lakes, plentiful trails, breathtaking views to start

And a vast array of wildlife make this Maine park a top pick for camping, biking and hiking. It’s also where you’ll find the tallest mountain on the East Coast of the United States.

The best months to visit are June through early September, when the weather is mild and tours and nearby attractions are open, and mid-October for fall foliage.

Can’t-miss attractions at Acadia include Cadillac Mountain, where you can be among the first people in the United States to view the sunrise each morning from the highest point on the East Coast.

With an elevation of 1,528 feet, Cadillac Mountain allows spectacular views of the coastline below as land, water and sky take on the warm colors of the early morning. The peak is accessible by car or multiple hiking trails of varying difficulty.

While at Acadia, be sure to spend time at Sand Beach, the most popular beach at Acadia National Park. It welcomes four-legged guests as well as two-legged and is staffed with a lifeguard in the summer months. Gnewen sand, towering evergreen trees and a rugged shoreline of pink granite make this a can’t-miss stop on any Acadia itinerary.

Here’s what you need to know about weather

The Atlantic is a chilly 55 degrees here, but those who are willing to brave the cnew temperatures get an invigorating break from the summer heat in one of the prettiest beaches around.

Sand Beach is an ideal location for a picnic lunch or just relaxing on a beach blanket. At sunset, watch as light rays peek out from behind the rocky walls and set the sand and gentle waves sparking.

Campgrounds include the Blackwoods Campground, a quiet, wooded area five miles south of Bar Harbor with more than 300 campsites, 61 of which accommodate RVs, and the Seawall Campground, a quiet, scenic area four miles south of Southwest Harbor and 18 miles southwest of Bar Harbor. This is where visitors can enjoy the tranquility of Acadia and fall asleep to the rhythmic sounds of the ocean, which is an easy 10-minute walk away.
