Just about 20 minutes north of the city of Grapevine is Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area. Set up on Lewisville Lake, this nature preserve plays host to a variety of outdoor activities that anyone can participate in. You can go on guided bird and kayak tours throughout the preserve or try your hand at fishing or enjoy one of the four hiking trails on your own. If you’re interested in history, you can visit the Log House from 1869, which is set up to look like it did when the Minor family lived in it over 100 years ago. About an hour and a half north of town is Eisenhower State Park, near Denison . On the picturesque shores of Lake Texoma, you can relax in the sun, do a little bit of fishing, and go for a swim in the lake. Eisenhower State Park is perfectly positioned at the merging of two ecosystems: the woodland forests and the prairie. As you hike through the park, you’ll see the changes from large trees to tall grasslands dotted with those famous Texas wildflowers.
