Copper Breaks State Park is an International Dark Sky Park, which means that the skies are so dark that they are optimal for star gazing. Once a month, from spring until autumn, the park is host to a stargazing program. The mission of the International Dark Sky Association is to preserve and protect the nighttime environment, losing light pollution. If you can't make it to one of the stargazing events, just looking up at the sky from any of your state park RV campgrounds will give you a good idea of why this park is used. Wildlife watching is another popular activity in the park thanks to a large number of flora and fauna that calls Copper Breaks their home. Expect to see mule deer, raccoons, armadillo, porcupines, coyotes, roadrunners, Great Blue herons, owls, lizards, and rainbow trout to name just a few. The park also contains some of the official state Texas Longhorn Herd.
