3.0We rented this van for a 9-day trip to Yosemite and Sequoia. None of our campgrounds had hookups, so off-grid readiness was key. Check-in was rocky: the listed address doesn't exist, so our taxi couldn't find it and we walked the sidewalks searching. The host arrived about 10 minutes later and checked us in on the sidewalk. The host responded promptly to messages. The check engine light came on around mile 60, and the van had trouble starting throughout the trip, and we kept the host updated. Post-start, the power and handling were excellent. Off-grid, the van delivered. We had ample electricity, the AC and heat kept us comfortable from 85Β°F in the valley to 39Β°F at altitude, and we could take short hot showers. The van is rustic, not luxury: no drawers, and cabinets and cubbies of painted and unpainted plywood. The seating area wasn't comfortable, but we rarely used it. The cassette toilet was given to us in a garbage bag and was very smelly; after a thorough cleaning, it worked well and didn't stink. The drinking-water hose had a black film inside, so we didn't use it. Overall, there are issues to address, the listing could be clearer, and the van met our off-grid needs.

The owner was also very responsive, which we appreciated. The van is older and more rustic than the pictures suggest, and I wouldnβt really describe it as a βluxuryβ van. You also need to plan on adding diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) during your trip. The biggest issue for us was the cassette toilet. The odor was extremely strong, to the point that we had to keep the bathroom door closed and cover the toilet with trash bags. Because of the smell, we didnβt use the shower even though the hot water worked. If youβre looking for a self-contained, off-grid van and donβt mind a rustic experience, this could be a good fit. Just donβt expect a luxury van.
