We had a nice time camping with our Friends. They are very experienced RV campers. Tuesday 8-24 we pickup up motor home. We followed the map provided by the owner. It was the wrong address. I called owner, Nicolle. She gave us current address. About a half later, we were at the right address. Nicolle had an electrical cord connected to motor home for the levelers. She showed us the exterior damage from previous renters, no plates, so there was proof of registration in glove compartment. She explained how things worked. We finally headed for our campsite, got there after dark. We parked in our assigned campsite. It was uneven. Had trouble getting levelers down, after they were down all the way, coach was still very uneven. Had nothing to place under levelers to get the needed height. There was nothing to scotch the wheels with. These are safety issues. Slept that way that night. Next day friends supplied us with additional leveler blocks and scotched the wheels. Tried to start generator, battery was dead, had to jump start the battery. That first day we found the coach was not very clean. Started to use silverware and found they were very dirty. We finally did some cleaning with sanitized wipes. Door openers, handles, areas you touch a lot, there was built up dirt on these areas. At night, the refrigerator would not run on propane. Kept turning itself off. Some foods became questionable to eat. By Friday night, some of us had symptoms of soar throats, congestion, coughing and some had nausea. By Saturday all 5 of us in the motor home, from 3 different households, were symptomatic, including fever. Non of our friends that we visited with daily and ate with outside, got sick. Sunday 8-29 everyone who had stayed in the motor home were ill. Monday everyone much worse. Tuesday we had Covid 19 tests done. All of us tested positive. Our common exposure was the motor home. I hesitated to post our experience, but safety issues are involved. When we travel, I always sanitize where we stay. It was late, dark difficulty setting up motor home and had to make all the beds. I made a huge mistake. I assumed that Outdoorsy required owners to clean according to CDC requirements. It seems that’s not the case.
Nicolle’s answer
Belinda,
The leveling system on the RV is only meant to level the RV within a few degrees and not intended to lift the tires off the ground as shown in the photo; according to the operator manual. We apologize for not having chocks and we now have them on our vehicle for those who desire to use them. Sharing your power source with another unit at your site, as you shared with us, is the reason the battery died. The house battery was replaced in late July, and is in good condition, but can be drained when not used properly. I’d like to clarify that I take pride in cleaning our unit. I wipe down all surfaces with antibacterial AND spray the entire interior with Clorox in an electrostatic sprayer— as an extra precaution due to the pandemic. My husband and I are vaccinated and did not have any exposure before, during or after your trip. I am very sorry to hear you all came down with it and hope you recovered well. Unfortunately, we were not able to help you with any of your issues because we were not contacted by you at all, despite our efforts to assure you we were available at any time. We hope our renters have great trips and want to be there in the case you need us, as we’ve done for many in the past.
