Calling all hippies, vanlifers, nomads, dreamers, and wanderlusters. If you are looking for your next road tripping campout adventure, don't worry, Choncho has you covered. Remember, the adventure is in the journey, not the destination.Meet Choncho. The legendary 1985 Volkswagen Westfalia camper van. RecommendationsBased in the gold country off highway 49 in Mokelumne Hill, Choncho is in the middle of the Sierra Nevada. A short scenic drive( 2 hours/ 100 miles) to the south will get you to Yosemite National Park or (2 hours/ 100 miles) to the east will lead you to South Lake Tahoe. Or you can link both destinations in one trip and cross over Tioga Pass. However, Tioga Pass is closed in winter normally (November through May). Depends on the snow on the pass.
Countless other places to visit: Calaveras Big Trees, Lake Alpine, Cherry Lake, Mono Lake, Twin Lakes, Mammoth, and many other off the beaten path destinations.
Example: Tuolumne River, Merced River, Bodie, and many others. Just ask!
And remember since Choncho is powered by Subaru, you won’t have any problems with keeping up with traffic on the mountain grades.
Other things to noteSacramento airport pick-up available.
Also, secure covered parking is available in Mokelumne Hill for those that need to leave a vehicle.
In addition, if you want to get a early fresh start, feel free to stay a night in Choncho at my outdoor camp. An outdoor bathroom, shower, and kitchen makes your first night a bonus. Camp! Camp is a short 10 minute walk to the local historic Hotel Leger in Mokelumne Hill.

The van performed very well on my festival trip. Bryan (Tyler's brother) was very helpful and accommodating. Van looks great on the outside and has normal interior wear for an '85 vehicle. I'd rent this rig again.

Tyler was so helpful and so knowledgeable. He is very detail oriented and things work so smoothly because of it. Little things like making sure when you store the mattress topper, and there is one, it does not interfere with opening the cabinet door. I could operate all the things I needed to and his orientation was fantastic. The camper is stocked. You just need your clothes. I brought my camping stuff, but found that his is superior, because he really knows what works well. He makes it a better experience for sure. I would highly recommend staying at his onsite campsite the first night, because its beautiful there and you really get to see just how prepared the camper is and just how little of your stuff you need to bring. Tyler is easy to talk to and he really made the trip more fun. You will enjoy other VW drivers smiling and waving. It is a great experience.

I rented this van with the intention to purchase one in the near future. I will 100% be buying one shortly and all thanks to Tyler Miller and his lovely van. Tyler is one awesome dude and has has an amazing personality, once we bumped fists and started the convo about the inside and outs about his van I knew right away he has a passion for them. He went over every detail inside and out and explained how everything operates, and what is a practical camping set up. Tyler went above and beyond and included all cooking utensils, blankets, pillows and even a double padded foam mattress for the back. I would rent from him again but ill be buying my own soon. I have since saved his number and I am looking forward to taking so trips with him in the future.

We had a great time with the van. It ran wonderfully, and was prefect for 2 adults. A few typical Volkswagen issues, whistles, vibrations, all added to a trip down memory lane. Tyler was professional, friendly and courteous.

Tyler is responsive, encouraging, and has a dialed Westy. We had a great experience with Choncho exploring eastern Oregon in one of a kind VW Westy style. This van is clean, well-equipped, and great on the road. Thanks Tyler! Pictures to come.
