2008 Honda Element Element
This Honda Element is the perfect vehicle for camping, beach hopping, surfing, and any other Kauai adventure! Roof rack on top for surf boards or kayaks, back seats fold up or can be taken out completely to sleep in the back. Gets 20-25mpg! Leave the back seats in and fold them up to make more room for gear, or take them out and camp in the back. Check out my add ons for the sleeping pad, bedding, and other camping gear. I love my Element, and I know you will feel like you’re “in you’re Element” too! What's includedRoof RackRecommendationsThere’s so much to see and do! Ask me if you have specific questions.Other things to note1. Although the Element has some clearance, she is not a 4wd vehicle.
****Polihale trips are no longer allowed, as the road has deteriorated to the point that you need clearance and 4wd (and there is no camping allowed anymore as of July 2020). It is a minimum of $3k to get towed out of the area if you get stuck or break down, a cost and hassle that I don’t think you or I want to deal with.****
2. An enjoyable trip to Kauai means that you must respect: the locals, the land, and the ocean. Do not go past posted signs, especially if there is an ocean or a cliff on the other side. If you don’t see any locals swimming in the ocean- don’t go out! The ocean can change at any time and rip currents are common on Kauai. I recommend looking at swell forecasts as well as weather forecasts for ocean activities. Anything over 4ft swell is going to be difficult for the average swimmer/snorkeler. Also please note that Hawaii has banned oxybenzone and other chemical sunscreens as one drop in a pool sized amount of water is enough to kill the coral reef! Wait to buy sunscreen until you are here and make sure the active ingredients do not end in an -enzone. Zinc or titanium is best.
