Mahalo for taking the time to check out this van listing.I’d like to touch on one of the most common questions I receive: Where can you camp or park overnight on Oʻahu?Second, I’d like to touch on one of the most common questions I receive: Where can you camp or park overnight on Oʻahu? For liability reasons, I’m not able to give specific recommendations on overnight spots. That said, there are some great resources online—such as hipcamp—where you can find paid overnight parking or camping options. A quick Google search for places on Oʻahu may also reveal some great spots. There might even be a site out there that’s curated a list of locations others have vouched for.My best overall advice is to use good judgment and keep an eye out for safe, sensible places to stay. Please note that municipal parks on Oʻahu are not open for overnight for parking or camping; most of them close between 10 PM and 5 AM.Now...on to the vehicle details...Step into a Time Capsule and cruise around Oahu with our 1990's Retro Van! You have two pick-up options: 1. Meet me at the church (location disclosed later) via your own travel arrangements...or 2. I can pick you up at the airport and take you to the van staging area at the church parking lot.If you need pick up at the airport, there will be a $30 charge for airport pick-ups and drop-offs. The fee is comparable to an Uber ride. If you don't need or opt out for my transportation, you can choose any public transportation.Another perk!!! If you love sailing or have never sailed before, you will have the opportunity to go for a Discounted 2-3 hour sail on my 65' yacht (a legitimate charter operation in Waikiki, based on availability). Rules and policies
Since many renters seem concerned about the legalities of sleeping or camping in a rental vehicle, I’ve put together some general information to help ease your concerns. While it might technically be illegal to sleep in your rental vehicle in Hawaii, enforcement is extremely rare. The local police have more pressing issues to deal with, and the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) rarely bothers people who are camping in their vehicles. As long as you're parked legally and sleeping in your van at night, you’re not required to respond if someone knocks on your door. If an officer can’t see inside the vehicle to confirm someone is sleeping, all they can do is knock. Should you choose to answer, they cannot arrest you; the conversation will likely focus on safety suggestions and possibly some legal education. If you do interact with local authorities, it’s best to cooperate and move along if they request it. My advice is to use common sense. Park in affluent neighborhoods, well-lit areas, or places with frequent foot traffic. I’ve personally parked overnight at Sunset Beach on the ocean side of the road without any issues. Avoid drawing attention to yourself by drinking, making noise, leaving trash, or playing loud music. Respect others and the environment, and it will go a long way. Do not park on private property or questionable areas. Most parks close their gates at 10:30 PM, but sometimes you can get away with staying overnight. These gates usually reopen around 4:30 AM. You may get locked in the park if you don't exit in time. Keep in mind that crime is present and increasing in the islands, so don’t give anyone a reason to take advantage of you. There are some communities you should avoid.
