But if you'd rather go exploring on foot, the park also has more than four miles of hiking trails. There's a one-mile nature trail near the beach that leads walkers through the dune system and along the salt marsh, and it's pretty easy going if you're traveling with kids. For those looking for more of a challenge, the 4.5-mile trail (note: the round trip is nine miles) that leads through the forest and around Western Lake can be tackled on bike or on foot. Finally, don't forget to keep your eyes peeled for rare wildlife while you're out and about. Bald eagles, ospreys, Florida black bears, grey foxes, and more all call the park home, so there's no telling what sort of creatures you might spot along the way.
