Memories made on trips with Off Grid Escapes's RVs

I rented this van for a trip from Chicago to Tennessee, flying in from LA to pick it up. The van’s condition was unacceptable, reflecting a clear lack of maintenance and care.Mechanically, the van had serious issues. The low tire pressure warning light was on, which the host dismissed as a faulty sensor rather than addressing it. The front-end alignment was off, causing the van to pull left, especially during acceleration, which raised safety concerns. The dashboard clock was incorrect (set to 10:38 PM, Jan 12, 2020), a minor issue but indicative of the overall neglect. The interior was equally disappointing. It was dirty, with broken glass in the dash cubbies and on the floor. Cabinets were broken or wouldn’t latch, resulting in constant squeaking and rattling while driving. This made the experience uncomfortable and frustrating. The host seemed indifferent to the van’s condition and safety. Despite the misleading online description, photos, and reviews, I had no viable alternatives due to limited options in Chicago and a tight schedule, so I reluctantly accepted the van. These issues could have been easily fixed with minimal effort, but there was no apparent attempt to ensure comfort or safety. This was not the cheapest rental option, making the poor quality even more disappointing. One star is generous.

We really appreciated the kitchen amenities, storage space, bed size (both around 5’9” and can just barely extend our legs fully), ease of driving, and flexibility of being in a van in general for travel. We will book again! We relied on the handbook for van operations (dumping gray water, etc.) and learned as we went. We brought a few pots/saucepans to use with the stove that we realized weren’t compatible with the ‘induction stove’ type, so we used the smaller skillets the owner provided. We never used the collapsible toilet.
