1. We picked up the RV with a half a tank of gas, filthy floors and a partially full black tank and full grey tank.
2. We got a very cursory run thru of the unit which also uncovered a malfunctioning side out. Importantly, we were never shown the self-leveling system on pick up.
3. We were heading out directly so had to take it. The lack of a side out made it incredibly cramped with 5 people and a dog. There was no offer of compensation when we called the host but we were told that "it shouldn't ruin our trip".
4. The awning malfunctioned and had to be rolled up manually (host suggested we call roadside assistance). During this call with the host, he said "I don't know what's going on with that rig".Here is the nightmare:
After returning the unit (we dropped it at a designated parking area) we received an email claiming damages to the self-leveling unit. This is the really infuriating part. There was no damage to the unit while we had it and, based on the condition of the vehicle when we picked it up, I think it's entirely possible this damage pre-dated us. We used the unit as instructed during our rental (had to call for instructions) and we were parked on a sandy and mostly level KOA campsites. It's absurd to think we damaged the unit in some way. Going thru this process though, you can easily see how an unscrupulous host might use the filing of bogus damage claims to subsidize their rentals and help with maintenance costs. This is my first Outdoorsy rental and will be my last. If you DO rent this, you need to budget yourself a full day of rental to get it cleaned and returned...unless you live in Sacramento. It's a pain to clean but there are all kinds of fees; $250 cleaning fee; monster fees for not dumping tanks, for not filling gas....and if that fails, there's always the damage claim. Document everything. On the positive side, the host is responsive and reachable when things don't work.
