We had a great time visiting the Palmer Gulch KOA Resort in Hill City SD. It was during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally making it even more fun to see all the bikes in the area. Some may not like the rumbling but we actually enjoyed the liveliness and energy. We didn't try all the restaurants so no info on how crowded they were. The Bar and Grill in the KOA was fairly empty so it worked out when we wanted to get something quick. The kids did some swimming, horseback riding, kayaking, bike riding, Mt Rushmore and even panned for gold in a mine tour. The time went by so fast that we skipped fishing. Our 5th wheel trailer that we rented was delivered at the campsite, hooked up, and ready to go. Our 5th wheel host, David, even included Custer State Park Passes for us to use. It was comfortable and clean and had everything including a large TV to watch movies for the kids. Yes, I know that's what you don't do camping but movie night came in handy when we encountered a crazy thunderstorm. The trailer provided the dry and comfortable place to be while watching the lighting. The group with the tent across from us had to pack and leave. The experience was great and David was communicative and available with any questions I had with the trailer. I would recommend this experience to anyone as it made our camping memorable without the hassle of towing, parking or emptying our own. I would recommend this KOA, this easy way to visit the park, I and would recommend David and his trailer that we enjoyed.
