In the summer of 2019, I quit my job, Bought an old RV and started driving across the United States. Went everywhere, from Yosemite National Park in California to Chicago, New York, and Washington DC! From Everglades National Park in Florida to Austin, Texas! The road trip lasted for about 8 months until I decided to come back to LA after the CoVid Pandemic broke out. Decided to keep my RV because it's in such great condition. And now planning on renting it out here on Outdoorsy.

10/10 experience on all fronts. My brother and I rented Andy's Dolphin for a week and had a blast. The RV has everything you need but is also simple and uncluttered. It was a pleasure dealing with Andy who was very friendly and responsive. I highly recommend Andy's Dolphin.

The best thing we can say about this RV is that it got us from point A to point B. The DIY renovations done on the inside look great in the pictures, and having clean towels/linens was convenient, but that only goes so far in comparison to the functional issues that came up during our trip.My husband and I wanted to explore the California coastline for our honeymoon, and based on all the 5-star reviews, this RV seemed like a great option. When we picked it up, the owner (who was very nice) showed us how to use everything. When he started it up, it sputtered and didn’t start right away, to which he said “oh it never does that, it usually starts right up every time.” He also admitted to not knowing a lot about cars or how they work, which wasn’t reassuring.
He went on to show us all the little “quirks” (issues) throughout the RV, such as:
- The broken door handle going into the camper that you had to turn a specific way to get it to close.
- A key that didn’t actually work to open the outside panels to access the heating/water components (unless you angled it just right, after several attempts).
- The patched damage to the back of the camper from a previous driver backing it into something.
- The gas heating component, which needed to be lit a very specific way and took him a few attempts to successfully start when he demonstrated it for us.
- The latch on the mini fridge door didn’t work unless you latched it a certain way.
Conveniently, none of these things were included in the photos and none of this was disclosed to us before making our reservation. They were only mentioned right at pick-up. At that point we’d already made our plans and didn’t want to have to change everything around at the last minute, so we decided to give it a try anyways.
During our week-long road trip between LA and Monterey Bay, it stalled on us SIX times; twice while we were sitting in the middle of traffic, four times while putting it in reverse to park. Most of our trip we were just worried about it stalling or breaking down on the side of the road.
The owner told us that it can handle hills without overheating, as long as you take it easy. Apparently what he meant by that was that it can only go 25mph at most up a gradual hill in a 55+ mph zone, and even then the temperature kept increasing. We had to keep pulling over to let it cool off and to let the build-up of cars behind us pass. The owner claimed that it “made it all the way to Yosemite without any issues.”
Other issues that came up during the trip and were not disclosed to us:
- The window panel on the camper door wouldn’t stay up all the way.
- The front passenger speakers were dysfunctional. They kept turning on and off with every bump in the road, so the music volume would keep going up and down throughout the trip, which was really annoying.
- The cabin light above the rearview mirror didn’t work.
- The shower light button was broken.
- The left knob for the kitchen sink leaked onto the counter whenever it was turned on.
- The shade covering the skylight vent above the bed was dysfunctional (it wouldn’t retract all the way) and one of the screws securing it to the ceiling kept popping out while we were driving.
- The screens on most of the camper windows were torn at the edges.
- The speedometer is not accurate. It reads at least 5mph above your actual speed.When we dropped the RV off at the end of our trip and told the owner about the stalling and all the issues that came up, he just acted surprised and oblivious. He didn’t offer a single apology for all the trouble. The lack of responsibility/accountability, along with the fact that all of the issues we dealt with were not disclosed in the Outdoorsy listing and/or at pick-up, is the biggest reason we’re writing this review. The description of this RV was not accurate to the condition it was actually in, and other renters should know exactly what they’re getting into BEFORE they pick it up.

We LOVED our Dolphin RV! We drove it up and down the coast and camped at beaches along the way. Be prepared for everyone to swoon about your Dolphin as they have a cult following for their reliability and overall coolness factor. Andy was an amazing communicator and was great with letting us know about all the features and perks his RV has so we could take full advantage.

Andy is the best and the trip was so much fun! The RV is the perfect size for a couple and felt like home for our 5+ week trip. Many of the best places we went couldn’t accommodate anything larger (which we didn’t know ahead of time) so we felt it worked out perfectly! Highly highly highly recommend for an adventure! We were sad to leave.

Andy was great... communicated with us quickly, answering all our questions.. the RV was exactly as advertised.. clean and functional. Ran well and got us to our destination with no issues. Hot showers, great kitchen for cooking. Would rent again.

Andy was very prompt with communication and accommodating with our VERY late pickup and early drop off. The Dolphin made for quite a cozy home on our trip and though we put the ole girl through the paces she never gave up on us. The bed was comfortable with pillows that we considered putting in our luggage. Definitely worth the experience!!

Is Andy one of the nicest people ever? Having not met every other human, I am still confident in saying, yes! He was super helpful and informative from my first inquiry to providing an itemized receipt after our trip. I’d give him 10 stars for communication. He told me to call him with any questions and I know he meant it. The one time I did call he was super nice and responsive and I never ever felt like I was putting him out. We also exchanged a few texts and it was very comforting to know he was there to answer questions as this was my first time driving an RV. Even though the Dolphin 720 is not the newest vehicle, it’s in tip top shape and the inside has been revamped to be very cute and modern. It was easy to handle and, even though it’s not winning any races, it took us seamlessly from LA to Santa Barbara and back. I can’t say enough good things about our experience with Andy.

This little camper was very fun to take out and ran well. It is slow on the hills but the a/c worked perfectly and the car never overheated or had any other problem. The a/c also worked well at the campground as well allowing us to cool off after a long hot hike.
Andy was very accomodating and helpful. I would recommend him anytime.

If your looking for a fun adventure in a working vintage RV, this is the right RV for you! We had a really great experience with Andy and the Dolphin! Andy was very responsive and accommodating. He gave detailed explanations on how things work since we hadn’t actually driven an RV before, only slept in one. He kept in touch for any questions we had throughout our trip, and kept materials in the RV that were helpful (like bug spray and sunscreen). The RV ran well and was super fun to drive around! The a/c or heater didn’t work as they were supposed to, which was challenging while traveling mid-July, but Andy accommodated by giving us a discount in the end, and was very understanding. Overall, worth the value.

Andy was very responsive and helpful. We had a few questions along the way and he responded immediately. The truck was clean, ran perfectly, everything was as advertised. We absolutely loved the experience, and want to rent it again!
